It's amazing for me to see how the industry has changed. Way back when I graduated from Cosmetology School things seemed to be a little different. Having a valid license was like a badge of honor. I smiled big and proudwhen I got my license in the mail. Now ~a~ days - people only care about "doing hair". Product knowledge for some is a matter of knowing WHERE the shampoo is. Not whats in it. I have seen stylist same relax every client with the same relaxer and just grab this and that doing whatever to a head of hair.

I recently retired myself from a salon, which I think once had a great reputation. Upon leaving I couldn't only look back at the salon thinking, " Thank GOD I got out alive!".

Stylist highlighting and perming in the same day (with results not worth mentioning here.)  Stylistsrunning willy nilly with NO license but struting like the BIG chicken on the farm because they laid the largest egg. (when infact they probably stole the egg from another chicken).

I was amazed!

What happened to professionalizm? Where are those badges of honor? Does anyone care?? Product knowledge is VERY important to the stylist and the client.

Salon owners need to be a little more choicey in hiring stylists with no license. Don't give in to making a dollar. When you get sued and closed down for it you will only look back and say, "I shouldah checked and cared . . ."

C'mon ~ let's be professional.
